MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Montgomery Parks announced a new scholarship program to help residents send their children to summer camp.

The Marye Wells-Harley Dream Camp Scholarship was named after the former Montgomery Planning Board Commissioner.

The scholarship will be given to children ages 6 to 14, "from diverse backgrounds within Montgomery County," the Department said.

“Summer camp is so important to a child’s development,” Michael F. Riley, director of Montgomery Parks, told Montgomery Community Media. “It provides opportunities to grow emotionally, build social skills and have fun while being physically active. We recognize there are many families who cannot afford to send their children to summer camp. This scholarship pays tribute to the great work Marye did throughout her career, while also providing valuable experiences for young people in the county.”

Over $5,000 has already been donated to the scholarship program.
