SILVER SPRING, MD — Outback Steakhouse opened a new redesigned restaurant in Silver Spring, on April 9, the second location in the state with a new look, the company said.

The restaurant, which features a modern Aussie atmosphere, is located at 8661 Colesville Road. A centrally located bar inspired by the Great Barrier Reef and a roomy dining room able to handle about 187 guests are part of the look.

Instagram-able artwork in the restaurant includes a mural inspired by the area's cherry blossoms and Maryland pride created by artist Lindsey Jenneman. The art depicts an Aussie koala surrounded by cherry blossom flowers with the Maryland flag in the reflection of its sunglasses.

As part of the opening, up to $5,000 of proceeds from Tuesday's opening day sales benefited the Johns Hopkins Oncology Department of Chesapeake Bay Area Charities, which cares for cancer patients and their families in the community.

The company said the new restaurant created over 100 job opportunities in the Silver Spring
community and continues to accept applications for various positions.
