ARLINGTON, MA – More than $15,000 has been raised for Arlington art gallery owner Carla Dorato as she receives treatment for stage three T-cell lymphoma.

Dorato owns The Artful Heart Gallery in Arlington and Handworks Gallery in Acton.

A GoFundMe was organized on Dorato’s behalf to help financially support the Dorato, her employees, and the artists represented by the galleries.

“Carla’s absence puts a financial strain on her stores,” Kayla Murphy, who organized the GoFundMe wrote.

“Even through her chemo, she has worked tirelessly between the two galleries, so between hiring more help for the coming months and entering the slower post-holiday season, small businesses like us need more support during this time,” Murphy added.

Dorato has spent the last year and a half undergoing chemotherapy treatments for lymphoma, and is currently in remission and recovery from a stem cell transplant, according to the GoFundMe page.

The treatment involved a three week stay in the hospital and several more weeks quarantining at her home to rebuild her immune system safely. Dorato is set to recover in three to six months, according to the GoFundMe.

The fundraiser reached its initial goal of $10,000 on April 3, just a day after Dorato’s birthday.

Murphy encourages those who cannot donate to consider choosing Artful Heart or Handworks next time you’re shopping for a card or meaningful gift.
