Arlington Community Education (ACE) spring registration is now open. Catalogs are on the way to Arlington mailboxes, featuring hundreds of classes for adults, youth, and families. The catalog is also viewable online at ArlingtonCommunityEd.org. Most classes begin the week of April 22 and run through mid-June.

This term there are over 250 adult classes to choose from, including more than 100 multi-session classes. A new Contemporary Issues & History section features thought-provoking lectures on topics such as the history of Jesus, climate change, and Chinese history. Dance offerings include new classes like hip hop, yoga dance, and salsa for beginners, along with popular returning favorites Zumba, BollyX, country western, ballroom, and Israeli folk dance. Outdoor options include kayaking, running, and biking, as well as local history and food walks. Dozens of new one-night or limited-series classes have been added for busy schedules, including resin jewelry, linocut, calligraphy, book publishing, basket weaving, and over 20 cooking and tasting classes.

ACE Kids enrichment classes will be held after school at all campuses. New offerings include oil pastels, fantasy drawing, and advanced parkour. American Sign Language, ACE’s most requested course, is being offered for youth as well as families this spring. Adults and children can also enjoy juggling, karate, cooking, chess, and crafting together. Spring VacationFun! will run at AHS from April 16 through 19, mornings only, for grades K–8. SummerFun!, which runs July 8 to August 16 for grades 1–12, is also enrolling, with more than 100 fun and creative classes in arts & crafts, cooking, movement, games, dance, music, theater, communications, STEAM, and more.

This term’s catalog features artwork by Cover Art Contest winner Ariel Kessler, who creates a whimsical world by using lively, colorful imagery in a range of media including painting, collage, printmaking, and ceramics. “Croton” was created in 2021 during the global pandemic. Inspired by her partner’s beloved, vibrant, and resilient croton plant, Ariel was trying to find a connection to nature while feeling isolated from the outside world. Ariel’s work can be found in public and private collections throughout the world. She received her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Ariel lives in Watertown and has a studio in Somerville. View more of her work at www.arielkessler.com or follow her on Instagram @ariel.kessler.

“We were drawn to the unique, layered textures and fun, vibrant colors in Ariel’s work,” said ACE Director Jen Rothenberg. “‘Croton’ just makes us happy to look at and excited for warmer weather, blooming plants, longer days, and the new possibilities that spring brings!”
