ARLINGTON, MA — The town is offering the use of more public spaces for businesses that are reopening. On June 29, the Select Board unanimously approved a proposal for outdoor seating on Medford Street and Broadway. Restaurants are encouraged to apply to provide food service in the designated seating zones using the Temporary Outdoor Dining License application.

Applications are received on a rolling basis and will be evaluated based on the requirements in the MA Safety Standards for Restaurants, the Town of Arlington Temporary Outdoor Dining Rules and Regulations, and the Town's Temporary Outdoor Dining ADA Requirements.

The Park and Recreation Department unanimously approved a proposal June 30 allowing fitness and arts programs to use town parks and recreation land. Temporary Outdoor Fitness and Arts License (TOFAL) applications will be reviewed by town staff for compliance with these guidelines and administrative approval.

TOFAL licenses are intended to be compatible with regular Park and Recreation programs and field use requests. These regulations will be in effect until Nov. 1. Non-profits are encouraged to apply for space using the town's current Field Request Form and policy.

"With these new regulations in place," Economic Development Coordinator Ali Carter said in a statement. "It is my hope that business can be conducted outdoors safely throughout the summer and fall, increasing business capacity, visibility, and accessibility for consumers."

All of these regulations are effective immediately, and town staff are accepting applications now.
