ARLINGTON, MA — The Arlington Select Board is inviting residents to a public reception this week where new Town Manager Jim Feeney will be introduced.

The event is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Town Hall Gardens, located at 730 Massachusetts Ave. Light refreshments will be served.

Named town manager in April, succeeding the retiring Sandy Pooler, Feeney began the job on August 1. He's hardly new to Arlington town government.

Feeney has been with the Town of Arlington since 2009, most recently serving as the deputy town manager for operations. Before that, Feeney was the interim facilities director, where he oversaw building projects and developed and implemented pandemic response strategies in schools and public buildings.

Prior to that, Feeney was the assistant town manager, where he played a lead role in community relations and was responsible for capital project management and oversight of Community Preservation Act-funded projects.

Now, as town manager, Feeney will be tasked with directing the administration of all town departments and employees in accordance with the Town Manager Act.

"Arlington is a wonderful and unique town. To continue serving the community as its next town manager is the professional honor of a lifetime," Feeney said at the time of his hiring. "I am most grateful for the Select Board's ongoing support and confidence in me, and I look forward to continuing working with our excellent staff to deliver high-quality services to Arlington's residents and businesses."
