Arlington Libraries Roll Out Live, Virtual Storytime

The Robbins Library debuted two storytime series on Facebook Live as communities across Massachusetts are ordered to stay home.

ARLINGTON, MA — The Robbins Library in Arlington debuted two new virtual storytime series last week as the new coronavirus outbreak keeps nonessential businesses closed across Massachusetts. The series features libraries, authors, and musicians reading books out loud for kids dealing with social distancing.

On Tuesday, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker extended business closures statewide until May 7, leaving parents at home to find additional ways to entertain home-bound children. Librarians from the Robbins and Fox Library branches hope to fill some of the gaps with online events.

“I’m really looking forward to reading some of my favorite stories with our community,” Fox Librarian Amanda Troha said. “Storytime at the Fox is always one of my favorite parts of the week. Since being home with my one-year-old he often wants me to read the same book over and over, so I’m excited to read some new material.”
