Arlington Philharmonic Invites Local Musicians To Join Rehearsal

ARLINGTON, MA — The Arlington Philharmonic Orchestra is holding a public rehearsal this week and inviting local musicians to take part in the event.

The rehearsal is scheduled for 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist, located at 630 Mass Ave.

Music Director Orlando Cela will be conducting the orchestra, which will be reading selections by composers Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Dmitri Shostakovich. Those pieces will be played in their entirety during the orchestra's regular concert season.

"Musicians in town are invited to join the local symphony orchestra at the rehearsal," the Philharmonic Society of Arlington (PSA) said in a statement. "All instruments are welcome to rehearse that evening."

The PSA has requested that interested musicians RSVP for the event.

The PSA also said that the orchestra has openings currently in the percussion and string bass sections for the 2023-24 season. There also are opportunities to substitute in all other sections.

The orchestra's fall concert "Veiled Voices" is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist. The concert is expected to include "Overture in C Major" by Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel, "Piano Concerto in F" by George Gershwin — which will feature pianist Chi-Chen Wu — and "Symphony No. 9 in E-Flat Major, Op. 7o," by Shostakovich.
