ARLINGTON, MA — Arlington community members will have a chance to make sure their child’s car seat is safe and properly installed this week at a planned car seat inspection event held by the Arlington Police.

The free event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Arlington Police Department at 112 Mystic St. on Wednesday, Jan. 4.

This inspections, police noted in a recent announcement, are not an installation service. As such, police asked community members to have their car seats already installed in their car before arriving.

State data has flagged car crashes as the leading cause of death for children.

“Ensuring your child is in a correctly installed car seat that is appropriate for their size is the best way to ensure their safety when your family is on the road,” one webpage by the state Executive Office of Public Safety and Security notes.

Many parents, the office said, may misuse their child’s car seat, potentially due to confusion over how to install the seat or confusion over which seat is best for their child. Car sat inspections look to address such confusion.

Arlington’s car seat inspection service runs monthly on the first Wednesday of each month.
