ARLINGTON, MA — The Arlington Police Department has welcomed six new officers following their graduation from Cambridge-Northeastern Police Academy’s Fourth Class, said Chief Julie Flaherty in a news release.

Officers Joseph Fimiani, Joseph Hachey-Magliozzi, Shannon Hickey, Brian Koslowsky, Shailesh Shah and Rachel Venuti graduated on Saturday, June 25 and were sworn in by Town Clerk Juli Brazile on Tuesday, June 28.

“We are pleased to welcome Officers Fimiani, Hachey-Magliozzi, Hickey, Koslowsky, Shah and Venuti and congratulate them on their graduation from the Cambridge-Northeastern Police Academy,” Flaherty said. “The Academy is a comprehensive training process that includes skills based training as well as community-centered experiences that helps prepare new offers for all aspects of police work. I am confident that these officers will be assets to our department and serve the community with excellence.”

Each officer will now be paired with a field training officer to complete 12 weeks of field training, during which they will be familiarized with department policies and procedures and observed and evaluated by their field training officer.

In addition to traditional skills-based training, the Cambridge-Northeastern Police Academy helps recruits practice listening to and talking with community members, which is centered on the idea that policing is a “people business” and their interpersonal skills can greatly influence their success and impact as an officer. A key part of the training is experiential learning, during which officers engage in scenario-based activities and community outreach.
