ARLINGTON, MA — Town officials said Wednesday they will never declare ice safe or recommend anyone go onto bodies of water due to the uncertainty and constant changing of ice conditions.

The Arlington Fire Department also reminds pet owners to keep their dogs off the ice. This puts the dog, owner and first responders in "unnecessary risk situations," the department said.

Mild winter days and fluctuating temperatures are of particular concern, officials said. Residents are urged to be aware of ice and cold water safety precautions at all times provided by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). You may view them here.
