ARLINGTON, MA — A fundraising campaign for the owners and staff of a Mass. Ave. restaurant heavily damaged in a fire has nearly doubled its goal. The GoFundMe page for Thai Moon has raised $19,100 as of Friday afternoon, surpassing its $10,000 goal.

"On behalf of Thai Moon staff, we are full of so much gratitude for your love, generosity and kindness from Thai Moon customers, Arlington Community, Arlington Hockey Club, Sports Etc., friends and families," ownership wrote on the restaurant's Facebook page May 5.

The two-alarm fire April 29 caused an estimated $500,000 to the restaurant and the unit above, Fire Chief Kevin Kelley told Patch partner YourArlington. The kitchen, where the fire began, appeared to be a total loss, Kelley said.

The GoFundMe campaign will benefit employees while the restaurant is closed.
