Arlington’s 2023 Street Sweeping Begins In April

Crews are set to begin weekly, overnight street sweeping of main roads on April 6 at midnight.

ARLINGTON, MA – Arlington’s Department of Public Works began its annual town-wide street sweeping on April 3.

DPW will begin with route one and continue in numerical order until finished. Weather permitting, a town-wide sweep takes approximately eight to 10 weeks to complete.

DPW crews are set to begin weekly, overnight street sweeping of main roads on April 6 at midnight and will continue until the spring town-wide sweep has been completed.

Arlington residents are asked not to place trash or recycling in the street and to park cars off-street during your scheduled week. DPW will not return to sweep streets due to these issues.

According to Town Bylaw, Title III, Article 1, Section 33: Prohibition Against Obstructing Public Ways, it is forbidden to throw, or cause to be placed or thrown, onto any public sidewalk, street, fire hydrant, or highway and snow, dirt, leaves, gravel, or foreign substance or material. Violations of this section shall be punishable by a fine of $25.00 per day if the material is not removed.

Residents can find when sweepers will be in their area using the town’s website.

Weekly, overnight sweeping of main roads is conducted early Friday mornings between the hours of 12 a.m. and 7 a.m. and continues until the fall town-wide sweep is complete. This weekly operation occurs at the following locations:

  • Mass Ave.
  • Summer St.
  • Brattle St.
  • Forest St.
  • Lowell St
  • Park Ave and Park Ave Ext.
  • Appleton St.
  • Wachuset Ave.
  • Washington St.
  • Eastern Ave.
  • Gray St.
  • Oakland Ave.
  • Highland Ave.
  • Jason St.
  • Mill St.
  • Pleasant St
  • Lake St.
  • Broadway
  • Warren St.
  • River St. and Bates Rd.
  • Medford St
  • Chestnut St. and Mystic St
  • Academy St. (just to Maple St)
  • Municipal Lots (Town Hall, Library, Chestnut & Mystic Street)
