Arlington School Committee, Superintendent Reach Contract Agreement

ARLINGTON, MA – The Arlington School Committee has reached a successor employment agreement with Elizabeth Homan, the current superintendent of Arlington Public Schools, for a five-year term.

The agreement will cover the full implementation period of the proposed Arlington Public Schools Strategic Plan, which sets long-term organizational improvement priorities for the School Board and the superintendent.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue my tenure in Arlington,” Homan said in the announcement posted on the Arlington Public Schools website. “I'm looking forward to implementing the exciting plans we have developed in partnership with the community. Arlington is a truly special town and I am honored and humbled to serve its brilliant students, staff, and families for the next five years, and hopefully many more after that.”

Homan was appointed superintendent in July 2022, and under her leadership has “navigated the health and safety of our students and staff during the pandemic, and focused efforts to build a sense of belonging within the APS community,” school officials said in the announcement.

“Her leadership in the coming years will provide stability to the district to advance the goals of the proposed Strategic Plan to ensure equity in education, empower all staff, promote collaborative partnerships with families, and to commit to infrastructure improvements,” School Committee Chair Liz Exton said in the announcement.

Homan will receive $220,000 in compensation for the fiscal year 2024 beginning July 1, along with a retention bonus for fulfilling the five-year contract.
