ARLINGTON, MA — An Arlington restaurant is facing a setback in its recovery from a fire last spring.

Thai Moon sustained an estimated $500,000 in damages in a two-alarm fire in April. In August, ownership said they had begun clearing out damaged equipment and debris from the dining room, basement and kitchen in order to remove the smoke damage.

But after spending seven months developing a construction plan and applying for a permit, ownership said Jan. 20 they were unable to reach an agreement with their landlord to reopen at 663 Massachusetts Ave.

"We are actively looking for a new location in Arlington to reopen Thai Moon in spite of many challenges that we are facing, including supply chain issue, labor shortage and inflation," a statement on the restaurant's Facebook page reads.

Fire Chief Kevin Kelley told Patch partner YourArlington that the kitchen, which had major fire and smoke damage, appeared to be a total loss. A commercial unit above Thai Moon was damaged as well.
