ARLINGTON, MA — The Arlington Town Day Committee has announced details about the rescheduled Town Day fireworks, while also offering its assessment of last weekend's Town Day event.

Though the 45th Town Day went ahead last Saturday despite a rainy forecast, officials were forced to postpone the fireworks due to the weather.

But the committee has announced that the fireworks have been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 7 at Spy Pond.

Officials are encouraging attendees to walk to the event as traffic delays and parking limits are anticipated.

According to Arlington police, several thousand people attended last weekend's Town Day event. The festival, which took place along Massachusetts Avenue between Pleasant Street and Jason Street, featured entertainment, activities and over 200 booths.

"The weather made us a little nervous. However, people came out in droves," said Kathleen Darcy, chair of the Arlington Town Day Committee, who thanked the event's volunteers and sponsors.

Town Day also featured the Walter V. Moynihan Town Day Two Mile Run, which was held at Arlington Reservoir. Officials said 320 runners participated in the event, which was a new record.

Town officials already are reminding residents to save the date for next year's Town Day, which is scheduled for Sept. 21, 2024.

"People pretty much willed the weather to hold off (at this year's Town Day) and it did," said Len Diggins, Arlington Select Board chair and a member of the Town Day Committee. "We're already planning for next year."
