ARLINGTON, MA – Phase two of restoration work around the flagpole at Arlington’s town hall is set to begin in the coming weeks, and is estimated to be completed in August.

Work will include removing the brick and replacing the hardscape for the pathway connection to the staff parking lot, pathway connection to front entrance, and the pathway connection to the Mass Avenue sidewalk.

The removal and replacement of brick on a concrete slab will make for an accessible pathway from the front of town hall to the annex.

There will also be bluestone pavers removed and replaced around the flagpole, new bike racks, the relocation of an existing bench and the installation of a new ADA-compliant bench. When the work begins, access to these specific areas will be limited and restricted with fencing. The work is being conducted by DeMelo Construction Services Corp.

The flagpole reconstruction is an extension of previous work on restoring the town hall plaza during the pandemic. That work included the replacement of all horizontal hardscape surfaces, including the lower brick plaza, switchback ramp and upper granite plaza. The improvements allowed for safe, accessible circulation to the front of the building.

The project was completed by M.J. Cataldo Inc. of Littleton, MA. Below is a rendering of the completed work and current conditions.
