Arlington Town Manager Apologizes for Poor Road Conditions During Snow Event

A late response made for slick road conditions in Arlington Friday morning, prompting an apology from Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine.

ARLINGTON, MA — Numerous Arlington residents took to social media Friday to vent frustrations over road conditions in town, prompting Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine to issue a statement apologizing for road conditions Friday morning.

In a statement released on the town's website, Chapdelaine stated that snowfall arrived earlier than anticipated and earlier than the Department of Public Works began treating the roads, resulting in a potentially dangerous commute. Arlington received a lighter coating of snowFriday morning compared Saturday's snowstorm which dropped around six inches upon the area.

"The result was a challenging and potentially dangerous commute," Chapdelaine said. "I am very sorry for any upset and frustration that this caused. I am committed, as is the Department of Public Works, to taking a fresh look at our protocols in order to ensure that this situation does not repeat itself. "

The Advocate's report further indicates, however, Chapdelaine's promise held true Saturday. There were just three accidents during Saturday's snowstorm which delivered significantly more snow.

"I am appreciative of the efforts of DPW employees, and all Town employees as they have worked to respond to this event," wrote Chapdelaine. "Though our collective response today should have been better, it does not reduce my appreciation for the men and women working for the Town who are dedicated to keeping Arlington residents safe. "
