ARLINGTON, MA — Donors are rallying around an Arlington woman who was injured in a fall while on vacation in Puerto Rico.

A GoFundMe page for Beth Callahan has raised more than $50,000 as of 10:20 a.m. Wednesday morning. Her sister, who organized the campaign, said she remained in a coma as of Tuesday, though her condition is improving.

"The good news is that she has improved since this terrible accident occurred, although this will be a recovery that could take months," Sarah Hart, Callahan's sister, wrote.

Money raised by the campaign will support Callahan's husband and children and help pay for medical expenses that are not covered by insurance, including long-term rehabilitation, child care, shelter and transport from Puerto Rico.

Callahan has been in the ICU in San Juan since her accident Feb. 9. Her family told the Boston Globe they found a bed for her at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center after working throughout the day Tuesday.

Callahan, a former physician's assistant at Lahey Hospital, left her job in late January amid burnout, the Globe reported. On vacation just days later, she lost her footing at the top of a 50-foot cliff and was knocked unconscious during the fall into the water below.
