Arlington Woman Wins Lottery Just Days After Retirement

ARLINGTON, MA — Some people decide to retire after they win the lottery.

But Arlington's Susan Maxwell happened to win the lottery just days after she retired.

According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, Maxwell retired on Oct. 1. Less than a week later, she won a $1 million prize in the $15,000,000 Money Maker instant ticket game.

Lottery officials said Maxwell has opted to receive her prize in the form of a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes.

Maxwell has said she plans to use some of her winnings to help her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, according to a Lottery spokesperson.

Maxwell's winning ticket was purchased at Arlington Convenience, located at 245 Mass Ave. As a result, the store will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
