Arlington's Brackett Elementary School Tabs New Principal

ARLINGTON, MA – Gretchen Vice will serve as the next principal of the Brackett Elementary School in Arlington, located at 66 Eastern Avenue.

The appointment of Vice follows a thorough search for the next Brackett school principal, Arlington Superintendent of Schools Elizabeth Homan wrote in a letter to the Brackett community.

"I am grateful to the many Brackett community members who participated in the initial screening committee, joined forums, and provided their written feedback," Homan wrote.

Vice has been working in education for over 25 years, first as an elementary school teacher, then as a math instructional coach, and now as an administrator.

She comes to Arlington after serving as dean of faculty at the Advent School, an independent school in Boston, where she has worked as an administrator since 2013.

Vice recently completed her dissertation and will graduate with an EdD in Educational Leadership, Administration and Policy from Fordham University in May. She holds a Masters degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from Bank Street College and a BA in Political Science from Emory University.

In the final round of interviews, Homan wrote that Vice "shared specific strategies that she will use to communicate broadly with stakeholders and to establish access and belonging for ALL Brackett students, staff, and families."

In the coming weeks, Vice is expected to share her entry plan with the community and begin the work of hiring the next assistant principal for Brackett Elementary.
