Arlington's Town Day Is On, But Expected Rain Has Forced Some Changes

Town Day will feature entertainment, food, vendor booths and demonstrations by first responders. But one major event has been canceled.

ARLINGTON, MA — The Town of Arlington has announced that Saturday's Town Day celebration will go ahead despite rain in the forecast.

However, the evening's scheduled fireworks show has been canceled and several activities have been moved inside.

The Town Day event, in its 45th year, is still scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the area of Massachusetts Avenue between Pleasant Street and Jason Street. The fireworks had been scheduled for 7:30 p.m. over Spy Pond. No new date has been announced for the fireworks.

According to organizers, Main Stage entertainment will be moved to the Town Hall Auditorium, located at 730 Massachusetts Ave. Meanwhile, the entertainment scheduled for the Town Hall Gardens has been moved to the Community Center, located at 27 Maple St.

There will be additional indoor activities at the Cyrus Dallin Art Museum, 611 Massachusetts Ave.,Jason Russell House, 7 Jason St., and Robbins Library, 700 Massachusetts Ave.

The Arlington Fire Department still is scheduled to host a Touch-a-Truck event and the Metro Fire SAFE Smoke House —a three-room trailer designed to teach children about fire safety in the home —in the Robbins Library parking lot. However, there will be no Jaws of Life demonstration as previously scheduled.

As of Friday, the Arlington Police Department also remains on the schedule to host a few activities in the Robbins Library parking lot. The APD's Family Services Team will be on hand to provide assistance on a wide range of topics. The department also will host demonstrations featuring K-9 Officer Michael Hogan and APD K-9 Eiko. The demonstrations are scheduled at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Additionally, the Friends of Library Used Book Sale will take place in the Community Room in the library basement, according to organizers.

As of Friday, no changes had been announced to the Walter V. Moynihan Town Day Run, which is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Arlington Reservoir.

The site is scheduled to have a DJ, bounce house and a food and beer tent following the race.
