ARLINGTON, MA — A fundraising campaign has been launched for the owners and staff of a Mass. Ave. restaurant damaged in a fire Thursday.

A fire broke out in the kitchen of Thai Moon, causing an estimated $500,000 in damages, Fire Chief Kevin Kelley told Patch partner YourArlington.

A statement on the Thai Moon Facebook page Thursday indicated that staff had not yet been able to get into the building to assess the damages. Kelley told YourArlington the kitchen, which had major fire and smoke damage, appears to be a total loss.

"We are thankful that all of our staff are safe. They were trying so hard to put out the fire without thinking of themselves," the statement read in part. "We are thankful for Town of Arlington staff, the firemen and police officers. You are our heroes, and we owe you a lot of Thai meals."

Ownership also thanked customers for their support, as well as the organizers of a GoFundMe page that will benefit employees while the restaurant is closed.
