MA Weather: Dreaming Of A White Christmas (Eve)

Is a white Christmas in the cards for Massachusetts this year? While temperatures may be unseasonably warm right now, they'll slowly fall as we get closer to Tuesday. Couple that with clouds rolling in, and we could see some flakes at the start of the week.

But it might be more of a white Christmas Eve, according to the National Weather Service, which is predicting snow Sunday night into Monday. Forecasts are calling for the bulk of the snow before 1 p.m. Monday afternoon.

And "bulk" is a generous word – the most snow anyone will see is 1-2 inches in the western part of the state. Eastern Massachusetts is expected to get a coating to 1 inch of snow, and some towns might not see any snow at all.

Here's what to expect from now through Christmas Day, according to the National Weather Service:

This Afternoon
Mostly sunny, with a high near 52. West wind around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.

Tonight
Clear, with a low around 30. West wind 11 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph.

Sunday
Sunny, with a high near 40. West wind 9 to 11 mph.

Sunday Night
A chance of snow, mainly after 1am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 30. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Monday
A chance of snow, mainly before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. North wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Monday Night
A slight chance of snow before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 25. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Christmas Day
Sunny, with a high near 36. Northwest wind around 9 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Tuesday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 25. West wind around 7 mph.
