Multiple Opportunities to Shape Arts in Arlington

Commission for Arts & Culture issues calls for Poet Laureate, Arts Committees, and Advisory for new mural projects pilot

The Arlington Commission for Arts & Culture (ArtsArlington.org) has announced multiple opportunities for those who live, work or study in Arlington to help shape the course of public arts and letters in town for years to come.

Members Sought for New Public Mural Art Advisory Team

ACAC, in partnership with Chamber of Commerce and Arlington Center for the Arts, seeks volunteers passionate about public art to serve on an Advisory Committee that will provide input on a new grant-funded, long-range mural art plan for our Town. Over a half-dozen meetings both in-person and virtual, representatives will consider both the larger vision and the many logistical details necessary to bring impactful murals to the Town, representing diverse community perspectives and stakeholders.

The Town of Arlington seeks applications from individuals interested in serving as its fourth Poet Laureate by Nov. 30. Applicants will be “a dynamic, self-motivated individual” to serve a three-year term acting as the town’s leading poetic voice, an ambassador for poetry who encourages the reading and writing of poetry throughout Arlington. The role receives an annual stipend of $750, and may work closely with the Library, Arts & Culture Commission, and Arlington Schools. Apply online here or complete hard copies of the application materials available at the Town Manager’s office, the Select Board office and at the Robbins Library. Commission for Arts & Culture Commissioners and Committee Volunteers

The Arlington Commission for Arts & Culture seeks residents, business owners and nonprofit leaders who are passionate about the arts. Bringing together several previously separate cultural entities including Arlington Cultural Council, Arlington Public Art, Artlinks, the Arlington Cultural District Core Managing Partnership, and Poet Laureate, ACAC promotes and develops arts and culture programs, events, and resources, in order to create a sustainable and vibrant arts scene that engages and attracts artists, residents, businesses and visitors.

The Core Commission generally meets one evening each month; additional periodic subcommittee meetings are held around such activities as grant-making, fundraising, public art installations, performance programs and festivals, artist networking and development, destination marketing and communications, and Arlington Cultural District planning. ACAC especially seeks both Commissioners and subcommittee members willing to volunteer their skills in the areas of fundraising and development, grant-making, digital media or marketing. ACAC strives to expand access to and promote cultural equity in the arts, and to have Committee membership reflecting the diversity of our town.
