The Show Goes On At Arlington's Capitol Theatre

The theater will start showing movies Friday for the first time since March 2020.

ARLINGTON, MA — After weathering the pandemic for 14 months, Arlington's Capitol Theatre will reopen Friday.

“We're thrilled to welcome you back to the movies starting Friday, May 28," the theater announced in an email to customers. "There is nothing like the collective experience of watching an epic tale, action adventure, romantic comedy, or classic film on a big screen. Welcome back. We missed you."

Cruella: Set in 1970s London, "Cruella" follows Estella de Vil (Emma Stone), an aspiring fashion designer, and explores the path that will lead her to become a notorious criminal known as Cruella de Vil.

A Quiet Place, Part 2: The Abbott family continues their fight for survival in silence, quickly realizing that the creatures hunting by sound are not the only terrors of the outside world.

Nomadland: Following the economic collapse of a company town, Fern packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside conventional society as a modern-day nomad. Winner of the 2021 Academy Award for Best Picture, Best Directing (Chloe Zhao), and Best Actress (Frances McDormand).

Since its closure in March 2020, the theater has relied on private screenings, gift card purchases, ice cream pop-ups and other creative avenues to generate income.

"Throughout the last 14 months our customers have supported us during our virtual screenings, popcorn pop-ups, gift card purchases, private rentals, and ice cream sales," said Jamie Mattchen, general manager of the Capitol Theatre. "We love our community, appreciate its support, and can’t wait to welcome everyone back to the movies."

The Capitol Theatre is located at 204 Massachusetts Ave.
