The Exit Renumbering Project is converting all exit numbers on roadways per Federal Highway Administration requirements. Interstates and major roadways in Massachusetts previously utilized a sequential exit numbering method – 1, 2, 3, 4 – as opposed to a milepost-based method – 3, 5, 11 and so on.

"Old Exit" signs will be installed at key locations for a minimum of two years as drivers get used to the new system.
