Winter Storm Warning In Effect for Arlington on Saturday

The previous Winter Storm Watch has been changed to a warning. Here's a look at the latest snow projections.

ARLINGTON, MA — What seemed earlier in the week to be a slim chance of snow at best has now turned in to what could become a noticeable amount of snowfall, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Storm Warning.

Early Friday morning, the National Weather Service had issued a Winter Storm Watch. at 2:53 p.m. Friday, the watch was upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning. The watch is no longer in effect.

According to the National Weather Service's Winter Storm Warning, snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are possible Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening; causing slick roads and reduced visibility. The watch is in effect from Saturday at 7 a.m. to Sunday at 1 a.m.

The NWS' latest local forecast indicates that Arlington is in for snow starting in the afternoon, with snow accumulations of three to five inches possible. The NWS is showing highs in the mid twenties.

An additional one to three inches is currently in the forecast for Saturday night, says the NWS. Temperatures are slated to drop to the low.

Winter Storm Warnings are issued "for a significant winter weather event including snow, ice, sleet or blowing snow or a combination of these hazards. Travel will become difficult or impossible in some situations. Delay your travel plans until conditions improve," according to the NWS website.

A Winter Storm Watch is issued: "issued when conditions are favorable for a significant winter storm event (heavy sleet, heavy snow, ice storm, heavy snow and blowing snow or a combination of events.)," says the NWS.
