“Five Year-Old Beverly Farms Boy Strums for the Animals”

He Performs for a Good Cause

Micah Matulewicz is only five years old and already he’s getting paid to play his ukulele. The young musician’s venue is downtown Beverly Farms, where he plays and sings, “You’re a Grand Old Flag.” Sitting nearby and keeping time is his mother, Heather.

The pair position themselves outside Half Baked Cafe, across the street from the fire station. Store owner Kelly Mackin provides donuts while Marilyn Donati of Vidalia’s next door offers fresh fruit. Those who toss coins into Micaha’s donation cup get refreshments along with some entertainment. The young busker’s repertoire also includes “You are My Sunshine” and “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”

During a recent performance, money raised was donated to Friends of Beverly Animals. When asked why he chose that particular nonprofit, Micah said, “Because I want the animals to have food and to get adopted.”

The pint-size strummer is a student at Beverly's Cove School kindergarten class. What lies ahead for this fledgling performer—Berklee College of Music? Time will tell. Right now he is content to entertain people while raising money for a good cause. Sounds like a win-win situation.
