Heavy Winds Knock Down Trees 'All Over The City' In Beverly

The Beverly Fire Department is urging caution driving near live wires with nearly 2,000 customers without power Wednesday morning.

BEVERLY, MA — Nearly 10 percent of Beverly was without power as the Beverly Fire Department warned of trees and wires down throughout the city Wednesday morning following strong winds and rain associated with an early morning cold front.

Beverly fire asked drivers not to try to move downed limbs and branches near wires, and to instead call 911 for any tree in the road or electrical disturbance.

According to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, there were 56,473 residences without power statewide as of about 10:30 a.m., including 1,625 residents in Beverly — representing about 9 percent of city homes — at that time. There were nearly 70,000 without power at the peak of the outages mid-morning.

No timetable was given for restoration, but National Grid said restoration efforts are underway with the late-morning weather clearing.

Easton had the most outages with 5,724 National Grid customers, or 57 percent of town, without power. In Swansea, 2,966 customers, or 40 percent of town, was without power. In Attleboro, 2,148 customers, or 11 percent of town, was without power.
