Obituary: Leo J. White, Member of the Beverly Airport Commission,

Comptroller for GTE Sylvania for over 40 years before his retirement.

Leo J. White, 82, died unexpectedly, Monday, July 13, 2015 in the Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Burlington. He was the beloved husband of Lorna M. (Ronayne) White.

Born in Boston on February 11, 1933, he was the son of the late William and Lillian (Devlin) White. He was a graduate of Bentley College and received his MBA degree from Northeastern University. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was honorably discharged in April 1956. He has resided in Beverly since 1980.

Leo was employed as a comptroller for GTE Sylvania for over forty years before his retirement in 1993. He enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cribbage and especially loved to spend time with his family. A devout catholic, Leo was a longtime member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish. He was also a member of the Beverly Airport Commission, Knight of Columbus, Council #4336 of Tewksbury and was treasurer of the Sylvania Employees Association.

In addition to his wife of fifty-seven years, he is survived by his daughter, Catherine Doherty of Beverly; two sons, Leo J. White, Jr. of Peabody and John White of Huger, SC; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Giustina, Samantha, Brianna and Adrianna White and Caitlin and Jennifer Doherty; one great-granddaughter, Audrina Hernandez; a brother, Robert White and his wife, Priscilla; three sisters-in-law, Betty, Lois and Audrey White and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Paul, Donald and William White and a sister, Catherine Bunker.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot St., Beverly from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Interment will be in Central Cemetery, Beverly.
