Obituary: Margaret Carnegie Ricketson Sprague; Devoted to her Husband and Family, Watercolor Artist

Longtime volunteer with Beverly Hospital in the coffee shop, and as a Corporator during the hospital expansion.

PRIDES CROSSING & CUMBERLAND ISLAND, GEORGIA - Margaret Carnegie Ricketson Sprague, 87, beloved wife of the late Howard Burnham Sprague, Jr., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Brooksby Village in Peabody. Born in Boston, she is the daughter of the late Edith (Bayles) and Oliver Garrison Ricketson Jr. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Ricketson Bullard of South Dartmouth, and her brother Oliver Garrison Ricketson III, of Maui, HI.

Margaret was a graduate of the Wheeler School in Providence, Rhode Island, attended Radcliff College and studied at Monserrat College of Art. Margaret was an active woman she volunteered her time at her children’s schools, including Shore Country Day School, she was a long time volunteer with Beverly Hospital in the coffee shop and as a Corporator during the hospital expansion. Margaret was a watercolor painter and enjoyed travel and studying art, but most of all, she was devoted to her husband and family.

She is survived by three children: Sallie Sprague of Longmont, Colorado, Lucy Frederiksen and her husband Andrew of Wenham, and Howard B. Sprague III and his wife Kristin of Bristol, Rhode Island; four grandchildren: Margaret and Anne Frederiksen and Caitlin and Howard Benjamin Sprague; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, 705 Hale Street, Beverly Farms on Saturday, June 27th at 11:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Memorial donations may be made in Margaret’s Memory to Bement School, 94 Main St, PO Box 8, Deerfield, MA 01342
