Obituary: Roger Marland, Worked at General Electric For Almost 40 Years

Formerly of Beverly. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed making fine furniture and holiday ornaments.

DANVERS, MA - Roger Marland, 77, of Danvers and formerly of Beverly, passed away peacefully on Jan. 1, 2016. Roger was born on June 21, 1938 in Beverly Mass to Roger and Albina (Frazier) Marland.

He was a graduate of Beverly High School, class of 1956 and was a lifelong employee of General Electric in Lynn. He was a member of St. Mary’s of the Annunciation Church in Danvers MA.

Beloved husband of the late Carol (Jendraszek) Marland and beloved father of Cheryl and her husband Glen Thomas. Son Michael and his wife Nancy. Daughter Deborah Marland and her partner Abbott Seligman. Cherished grandfather of Kyle and Cory Thomas and Erica and Hannah Marland. He was also brother to Dennis Blaine of Hampton, NH. He leaves behind loving nieces and nephews, Christine Grimes and David Murphy and the Jendraszek siblings. He also leaves many grand nieces and nephews and a large extended family.Roger served in the US Navy in the Seabees unit before spending his entire career of 38 years working at the General Electric.

He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed making fine furniture and holiday ornaments. He also enjoyed stamp collecting and commemorative coin collecting. He traveled around the world with his wife Carol and with many of his closest friends. In his retirement his most passionate activity was attending his grandchildren’s sporting events including baseball , track, soccer and basketball games. His family wants to extend their sincere gratitude to all the providers at Merrimack House for their compassionate and caring service and to the staff and residents at Bayberry in Tewksbury.

He was a loving and caring husband, beloved parent and friend to so many, he will be greatly missed.His family remembers him with an open smile and much warmth and love.Relatives and friends are kindly invited to visitation on Saturday morning, Jan. 9, in The Mackey Funeral Home, 128 S. Main St., Middleton from 9am-11am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30am Jan. 9, in St. Mary’s Church, Conant St., Danvers followed by burial in St. Mary’s cemetery, Salem.
