Dog Found In Braintree May Have Been Left Behind By 'Gypsy': PD

Police say the name of the person associated with the dog's chip matches the name of a person found panhandling at the South Shore Plaza.

BRAINTREE, MA — A lost terrier mix dog may have been left in Braintree by a woman who was panhandling in the area last week, according to police.

The dog named Cloie was found near Legal Seafood at South Shore Place Saturday. She is chipped, according to the Braintree Police Department, but the phone number listed is out of Florida and no longer in service. The name attached to the chip matches the name of a woman who was interviewed by police while panhandling at the South Shore Plaza. The person was told to leave the mall by police.

"We believe this dog is part of the gypsie ring that we encountered at the mall. Needless to say they’ve probably moved on, as we haven’t seen them since and no one has called us about Cloie," Braintree Police posted on Facebook.

Cloie is currently at the Quincy Animal Shelter and will stay there for a few more days as part of the state mandatory hold policy, according to police.

Adoption requests can be made through the shelter. Police say that Cloie is a super, non-aggressive dog.
