LITTLETON, MA — A Littleton woman has been identified as the victim of a fatal snowmobile crash in New Hampshire Tuesday, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.

Stacey McGarry, 56, was killed in the crash, which was reported on Corridor 12 in the town of Berlin, officials said.

Berlin police officers were first on scene and were already attempting lifesaving measures when members of the Berlin Fire Department and Berlin Ambulance EMS arrived, according to officials. However, they were unable to resuscitate McGarry.

McGarry only had one snowmobile passenger, who was riding in the back and was uninjured.

The passenger said the pair were traveling west on Corridor 12 when McGarry failed to make a right-hand turn in the trail, according to officials.

McGarry then drove off the trail and struck a rock, which caused the snowmobile to become airborne and strike a tree, killing McGarry and ejecting the passenger.

The snowmobile was a rental machine from Northeast Snowmobile and ATV Rentals in Gorham, officials said, adding they believe McGarry had limited or no previous snowmobiling experience.

Conservation officers said speed and inexperience were the leading factors in this crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
