Shrewsbury Closures On Route 140 Bridge For Construction

The closures will last until Thursday.

SHREWSBURY, MA — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation closed the road over the bridge on Route 140 over Interstate 290 in Shrewsbury on Friday.

Closures will be in place nightly through Thursday from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. During the work, Route 140 northbound and southbound over I-290 will be shut down nightly at 8:00 p.m. and traffic will be directed to follow the detour routes in place.

  • Route 140 southbound traffic will be detoured to Main Street in Shrewsbury and then back onto I-290 eastbound and directed off at the route 140 southbound off-ramp.
  • Route 140 northbound will be detoured to Church Street in Northborough and then directed onto I-290 westbound and then directed off at the route 140 northbound off-ramp.

MassDOT also closed I-290 eastbound at exit 23A and all traffic will be diverted off exit 23A utilizing the bypass ramps on route 140 back to I-290 eastbound. I-290 westbound will be closed at exit 23B and traffic will be diverted utilizing the bypass ramps back to I-290.

Signage and messaging will be in place to notify drivers of this closure and detour.

MassDOT encourages drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes to minimize delays. Those traveling through the area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution.
