Unconscious Shrewsbury Woman Hit Multiple Utility Poles: Police

The woman's passenger became stuck after power lines fell on the car along Main Street in Southborough.

SOUTHBOROUGH, MA — A Shrewsbury driver knocked down multiple utility poles Wednesday in Southborough after she lost consciousness, according to police.

Police responded to Route 30 near Sears Road just after 3 p.m. Wednesday after a report of a driver hitting three utility poles. Police arrived to find the driver outside the vehicle uninjured, but the passenger was trapped inside with power lines over the car. The passenger was freed after National Grid shut electricity off in the area.

The driver told police she lost consciousness right before the crash. Southborough police filed for a license suspension due to the woman's health, and she was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

The crash kept Route 30 closed in Southborough until early Thursday morning while crews worked to repair the utility poles.
