Here are five great reasons to get out of town for what looks to be a picture perfect weekend – and a bit of a traffic nightmare if you’re staying around the metro.

Mackinac Island

The Mackinac Island Fudge Festival runs through Sunday. You’ll be able to see how the legendary fudge is made while the kids play Willy Wonka-inspired games. Other events include the Great Turtle Slow Ride, fudge-inspired dinners and cocktails, the Pioneer Sugar Relay Race, Mackinac Island fudge beer tasting, and the “Golden Ticket” contest where six people win free overnight vacations to Mackinac Island.

Mackinaw City

The Corvette Crossroads Auto Show is going on now through Sunday. Hundreds of Corvettes are displayed in the Mackinaw Crossings Mall parking lot. Vendors, music, and MC with peoples choice judging awards at 3 p.m. The parade over Mackinac Bridge begins at 7 p.m. All Corvettes are welcome; there’s a parade fee for non-show participants.

Paradise

An art fair, entertainment, kid’s craft tent, and wonderful local foods showcase the festivities. The celebration also includes informative programs of music, nature, and local history lore. There is an activity and delight for everyone in the family.

Greenville

Greenville celebrates 51st annual Danish Festival through Sunday in its beautiful downtown area. Shop, eat, dance and enjoy all things Danish. Music, fireworks, truck and tractor pulls, hot air balloons, the Grand Dansk Parade, and many more activities are featured. Don’t forget to try a traditional aebleskiver for a true Danish treat.

Saline

The Old Fashion Ice Cream Social on Sunday takes place from 1-4 p.m. in the Weber Blaess One-Room School, where homemade ice cream with a variety of toppings will be served as ladies with white gloves and parasols leisurely stroll the grounds. Grilled hot dogs will also be served. Musical entertainment and a sing-along are included in the festivities to provide an opportunity for young and old to experience turn-of-the-century life. It’s free; however, there is a fee for ice cream and other food items.
