Birmingham Teen Crashes Into 8 Cars, Jumps Into Lake Orion: Police

Police believe the teen was suffering from a mental health breakdown.

LAKE ORION, MI — Officials rescued a Birmingham teen who jumped into Lake Orion after striking numerous cars in the area Sunday, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Police said the 17-old-year boy crashed his car into eight other cars in nearby communities, including Auburn Hills and Orion Township, before abandoning it and jumping into Lake Orion.

The teen then began swimming in the water while screaming at other boaters, according to police.

Officials took the teen into a rescue boat and brought him ashore, and then took him to a nearby hospital, according to police.

There were no injuries in the incident, according to police.

Deputies also filed a petition for a mental health committal, according to police.
