Michigan No. 5 in Clean Energy, Transportation Jobs Growth

Michigan was a national leader in creating clean energy and clean transportation jobs in the first quarter of 2015, according to a new report by Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2).

Michigan was fifth during the period, behind Georgia, California, Texas and New Mexico, but ahead of Colorado, Virginia, Utah, Maryland and Indiana.

Michigan businesses created 616 clean- energy and transportation jobs in the first quarter. Projects in Midland, Huron and Sanilac counties contributed to the jobs growth, MIBiz.com reports.

Among them are:

  • Birmingham-based lithium-ion battery manufacturer Xalt Energy LLC, which said in March that it would add 300 new jobs to its Midland production factory;
  • Chicago-based Invenergy LLC, which said it would create 100 construction jobs and 10 permanent operational jobs at a 25,000-acre wind farm in Sanilac County; and
  • Colorado-based Renewable Energy Systems America Inc., which said in January it build a 20,000-acre wind farm in Huron County, creating 200 jobs at peak construction and six permanent jobs when the facility is operational.
