The latest internet hoax was prompted by an announcement earlier this month from McDonald’s that it will be cutting eight items from its menu as soon as January. McDonald’s has not announced which menu items will get the boot yet, but via Twitter, it reassured Big Mac lovers their favorite sandwich is here to stay.

“Stop the press! This is just a rumor. The Big Mac is staying on our menu!,” McDonald’s Tweeted to one customer.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa – hold the phone! That’s just a rumor – the Big Mac isn’t going anywhere!,” it wrote to another.
