GM Recalls 780K SUVs with Lift Gate Defects Linked to 36 Injuries

Friday's recall is the second this week. Earlier, the automaker recalled 760K Hummers with potential fire hazards.

General Motors issued another recall Friday, this time for 780,000 crossover SUVs with power lift gates that can suddenly fall and hit people.

At least 36 people sustained injuries linked to the defects, the automaker said in filings with U.S. safety regulators, Reuters reports.

  • Buick Enclave vehicles, model years 2008-2012,
  • Chevrolet Traverse vehicles, model years 2009-2012
  • GMC Arcadia vehicles, model years 2007-2012
  • Saturn Outlook vehicles, model years 2007-2010

GM said its crossover vehicles built after March 1, 2012, are not affected because lift gate parts were installed differently. The design improvement eliminates wear and tear on gas-powered struts that hold up the gates.

On Wednesday, GM said it was recalling 760,000 Hummers that had faulty fans that might cause fires.
