Just in time for the Independence Day holiday, some popular metro Detroit beaches and are closed to swimming primarily because of E. coli concerns.

- Lake St. Clair - St. Clair Shores Memorial Park Beach, Macomb County, closed since Tuesday due to high levels of E. coli
- Lake St. Clair - H.C.M.A. - Lake St. Clair Metropark Beach, Macomb County, closed since Tuesday due to high levels of E. coli
- Adams Lake - Addison Oaks County Park, Oakland County, closed since June 10 due to high bacteria levels associated with wildlife
- Scotch Lake, Oakland County, closed since June 24 due to high levels of bacteria associated with stormwater runoff.
- Eagle Lake, private beach with public access in Oakland County, closed three times in June due to high levels of bacteria, the latest on June 22, due to wildlife, but previously due to storm-water runoff.
Another great resource is the My Beach Cast offers a mobile app, which not only helps people locate beaches in the Great Lakes region, but also gives real-time information on water quality advisories, weather, water and wind conditions, and other valuable information.
