Plane Crashes At Eden Prairie Church Parking Lot: 1 Dead

Shortly after takeoff from Flying Cloud Airport, the pilot reported a fire onboard.

EDEN PRARIE, MN — One man is dead after small plane crashed at the parking lot of a church in Eden Prairie Wednesday. The Eden Prairie Police Department received a report of the crash at 11:10 a.m. at Eden Prarie Road and Glory Lane, located just north of Highway 212.

Shortly after takeoff from Flying Cloud Airport, the pilot of a small, single-engine aircraft reported a fire onboard. The plane crashed near a wooded area in the Resurrection Life Church parking lot at 16394 Glory Lane.

The pilot did not survive, police confirmed Wednesday afternoon. There were no passengers and no other injuries or property damage resulting from the crash.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, State Patrol and Metropolitan Airports Commission are assisting Eden Prairie Police with the initial crash investigation and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner will identify the victim.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will conduct a complete investigation, according to a news release.
