14-Year-Old Killed In Head-On Crash South Of Twin Cities Metro

A 14-year-old was killed in the crash. The two drivers — a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old — were hospitalized.

RICE COUNTY, MN — A 14-year-old was killed in a two-car, head-on crash Tuesday just south of the Twin Cities metro area. Two others were injured in the collision.

The crash happened at about 7:40 p.m. in Webster Township in Rice County, located 40 minutes south of Minneapolis.

Investigators believe a Ford F-150 pickup, driven by 20-year-old Caleb Mulvihillv from Lakeville, was traveling westbound on 30th Street when it crossed the center line and into the path of an oncoming GMC Sierra pickup driven by 16-year-old Hunter Bundy, also of Lakeville.

Brantly Ryan McCarty, 14, a passenger in the F-150, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mulvihill was transported to Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis and Bundy was transported to Children’s Minnesota in St. Paul.

Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash, authorities said. Seat belt use is not yet known, according to Rice County.

“Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones affected by this tragic incident,” said Rice County Sheriff Jesse Thomas in a statement.

The Rice County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol are investigating the cause of the crash.
