Anti-Tank Round Discovered By Sheriff's Office In Minneapolis Home

The discovery of a suspected rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) round is a first for the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

MINNEAPOLIS — The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office has discovered a lot of interesting illegal weapons over the years, but a suspected rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) round is a first.

The sheriff's office said the RPG round — which can be used in war as an anti-tank weapon — was discovered during a search warrant of a Minneapolis residence in connection to a fugitive and firearms investigation.

" Luckily, the RPG-7 round in this case was an inert round, meaning not an active explosive, but still scary nonetheless," the sheriff's office said.

In addition to the RPG round, authorities said they also discovered two handguns — including one that was modified with an auto-sear (switch) — and a bag of fentanyl powder.

Two men were arrested during the search, and the county's Violent Offender Task Force Detectives will further investigate the weapons and narcotics possession.

"We thank our Emergency Services Unit and VOTF for their work in getting these illegal weapons and narcotics off our streets," the sheriff's office said.

"We also thank our law enforcement partners, Minneapolis Police Department Bomb Squad and the Minnesota National Guard, for their assistance on this investigation."
