No Injuries After Blaze Consumes Abandoned Lake Street Kmart

Fire crews started to battle the blaze at the abandoned, boarded-up Kmart at about 5 a.m. Friday.

MINNEAPOLIS — No injuries were reported after a massive fire erupted at the abandoned, boarded-up Kmart building located on Lake Street and Nicollet Avenue Friday morning.

"Fire crews are in an exterior defensive fire attack, setting up aerial ladder water towers," the department said just after 5 a.m. "A second alarm has been called for additional personnel and equipment."

The rear wall of the building partially collapsed during the blaze, officials said. By 6:50 a.m., fire crews had begun working to prevent the fire from spreading throughout the building. The fire was extinguished later that morning.
