MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis-based General Mills is the latest corporation to pause ads on Twitter after Elon Musk took over the site.

The global food company made its decisions as Musk publicly contemplates big changes to the social media website, including charging for verifications and dialing back content moderation in the name of free speech.

"As always, we will continue to monitor this new direction and evaluate our marketing spend," spokesperson Kelsey Roemhildt said in a statement.

General Mills joins Audi and General Motors in stopping advertisements on Twitter, at least temporarily, until they can gather a sense of the website's new direction.

Twitter is expected to lay off a sizable chunk of its workforce on Friday as Musk seeks to make the platform more profitable.
