In Minnesota, it's considered offensive to turn your home's heat on before November. At least that's according to some of the state's diehard residents.

MINNESOTA — In Minnesota, it's considered offensive to turn your home's heat on before November. At least that's according to some of the state's diehard residents.

For other Minnesotans, it's simply a matter of pride and bragging rights to go as long as possible without the furnace going. For some, it's an effort to save money.

And still, for others, the best time to turn the heat on is "whenever I feel like it."

"I turned it on last week to make sure everything worked properly and then again last night. It’s acceptable to turn the heat on in your house whenever it is cold in your house."

"Nobody cares when you turn your heat on or off. Anyone who's going to razz you about it isn't worth listening to."

"After Thanksgiving."

"Yesterday."

"I was so cold yesterday, I caved. (Hanging my head in shame)."

"In the various cheap apartments that I have lived in during my years here, you have to wait until they decide to fire up the boiler. It can be as late as November. It sucks being cold in your home."

"In Minnesota, right now it probably costs like 2 bucks a day to warm the house up. Now in January it will be like 10. So it’s quite cheap to turn it on early in the year."
