Woman Who Blew Red Light Dies In Cottage Grove Crash

Authorities have identified the driver who died in Tuesday's crash.

COTTAGE GROVER, MN — An 87-year-old woman was killed Tuesday afternoon in Cottage Grove after she blew a red light, investigators said.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, at about 2:45 p.m., a 2020 Chevrolet Camaro going northbound on Highway 61 blew past a red arrow, turning left onto Highway 95.

Meanwhile, a 2015 Dodge Ram Pickup going southbound on Highway 61 had a green light and broadsided the Camaro, authorities said.

The Camaro driver — identified as Hazel Mitchell Johnson, 87, of Hastings — was killed. She was not wearing her seat belt, authorities said.

The Ram driver — a 37-year-old Hastings driver — is expected to survive. He was taken to Regions Hospital.
